Harvey Dancy Citizens Police Academy
Details of the Program:
In 2013, to honor and recognize one of our most dedicated alumni members and program attendees, we aptly named our academy, the "Harvey Dancy Citizens Police Academy". Mr. Harvey Dancy was present at the 1st session back in 2005 and attended every year up until 2017. Sadly, he passed away in 2017, and we mourn the loss of a treasured friend and compatriot.
The Lenoir News Topic ran an article dated March 27, 2013 which said, "Harvey Dancy always wanted to be a Police Officer but couldn't." After 8 academies, he said, "the learning never stops. It always changes. I enjoy the academy, all the guys and gals are friends now. I like going to the firing range."
Our department has received such positive feedback from other graduates of this program and continue to look for ways to improve it. Now in our 14th year, we hope to continue offering this valuable program.
Please feel free to share the details with those you know who may be interested in learning about our department.
