THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY CLOSINGS and Garbage Collection
Thursday, November 25, 2021
City Hall and recreational facilities will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 26, to celebrate Thanksgiving.
The Sanitation Division will collect garbage as scheduled on Thanksgiving Day. However, staff will not pick up on Friday, Nov. 26. The Friday route will be collected Wednesday, Nov. 24. All other household garbage pickups will remain on a normal schedule Thanksgiving week, but there will be no bulk collections that week. The Recycling Center on Pennton A venue will operate on a normal schedule.

Drive-Through Turkey Tuesday

Join City Council Members Crissy Thomas and Rev. Ike Perkins for the 7th Annual Community Turkey Tuesday. Council Members Thomas and Perkins and volunteers hand out hundreds of free turkeys to local families in need. Thomas and Perkins ask that each person picking up only takes one turkey per family. "We operate on an honor system," Thomas said. This year, residents can stay in their vehicle and drive through the parking lot to pick up turkeys. The giveaway starts at 5:00 pm.

Elf on a Shelf in a Store in Lenoir
Wednesday, Nov. 24 to Friday, Dec. 24, 2021
This season, holiday Elves can be found all around in Lenoir’s Downtown! As you enjoy your holiday shopping, have fun in the Downtown district finding the hidden Holiday Elves in participating businesses and locals. Play along by collecting digital stamps and win some prizes.
Everyone who finds all 25 elves will entered into a drawing. One lucky winner will receive $500 in gift cards at participating retailers, restaurants, brewery, and meadery.
Join in the fun:
- Download the “Stamp Me” App from either: Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Select the “Elf on a Shelf in a Store in Lenoir” promotion.
- Find the hidden elves between Nov. 24 and Dec 24.
- Let an employee know you’ve found it so you can scan their QR code and collect your stamp for their location.
- Locate all the elves and collect their stamp to be entered into the Grand Prize drawing.

Small Business Saturday & Light Up Lenoir

Saturday Nov. 27 is Small Business Saturday in Lenoir. Come to Lenoir, get a bite to eat, pick up some holiday gifts from our local small businesses!
One of Downtown Lenoir’s holiday traditions, Light Up Lenoir Holiday Light Show, will shine brightly on Shop Small Saturday, Nov. 27. The Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Show will start at 5:00 pm. The main light show will be on the stage in Downtown Lenoir, but the City will also have a big Christmas tree on the square and Christmas lights throughout downtown. #ShineOnShopSmall

Starry Night Christmas Parade

The Downtown Lenoir Starry Night Christmas Parade is a much-loved holiday tradition in the city. University and high school bands march and perform, numerous community groups and businesses enter floats, and Santa visits every year! The theme this year is "Walking in a Winter Wonderland.” The parade starts at 6:30 pm.

Luminary Display at Blue Ridge Memorial Park
