Come to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center this Saturday, July 23, 2022, and enjoy the free Jump Street Drive Band Music Festival. Four bands will be performing blues, jazz, R&B, soul, and funk!
The lineup for the night includes LaRhonda "Toni" Carlton from Lenoir, and the Groove Masters Band, Reggie Graves & Jazz Theory, and Bryan Anderson, all from Charlotte.
In addition to the music, staff will be giving away door prizes donated from local businesses, and there will be a food vendor on site serving fish, chicken, hamburgers, and hot dogs.
MLK Jr. Center staff have been sponsoring the music festival for a few years, but this year they changed the name to "Jump Street Drive Band Music Festival." MLK Jr. Center Director Lester Whittington said he changed the event name to honor and remember the band, which originated in Lenoir.
"Jump Street Drive was a local band that came up in the 70s, and I remember going to all their shows," Whittington said. "When I was a boy, it was exciting to see men from the community performing and being successful. I thought this would be a good way to honor them."
So, mark your calendars and bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and umbrellas to the MLK Jr. Center at 6:00 pm this Saturday for a night of great music and fellowship. In the event of rain, the concert will be held inside the MLK Jr. Center.
The festival is free and open to the public.
