City employees pick up litter during NC Litter Sweep

Staff with the Lenoir Police Department pick up litter on North Main Street in Lenoir

More than 30 City of Lenoir employees hit the streets today, Sept. 18, 2019, to pick up litter around Lenoir.

Staff from City Hall, the Fire Department, Police Department, Public Utilities, and Public Works picked up about 50 bags of trash.  A crew on Greenhaven Dr NW also found a car bumper. It wouldn't fit in a trash bag.

The crews cleaned up litter on several streets in town including:

  • Broadway Street
  • Greenhaven Drive
  • Harrisburg Drive
  • Fairview Drive
  • Hospital Avenue
  • Harper Avenue
  • North Main Street
  • Norwood Street
  • Scroggs
  • Vance Street
  • Virginia Street

North Carolina Litter Sweep continues through Sept. 28. Traditionally scheduled for the last two weeks of April and September, Litter Sweep is the N.C. Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) biannual statewide roadside litter removal initiative.

To participate in Litter Sweep, contact your NCDOT litter program coordinator and let them know. County NCDOT Maintenance offices will provide cleanup supplies to Litter Sweep volunteers. Supplies include reversible orange/blue trash bags, gloves, and orange safety vests. Lenoir and Caldwell County residents can call the Caldwell County NCDOT Maintenance Yard office at 828-726-2512 to get Litter Sweep supplies.

Visit the Litter Sweep Volunteer Resources website.
